ICSA supports the agreement for a 2050 net-zero emissions goal for international aviation, which provides new hope that the aviation industry will align itself with the Paris Agreement. The hard work starts now. The current urgent state of the climate crisis means we cannot afford any additional delays. This is why we cannot ignore the Assembly’s separate decision this week to amend CORSIA’s baseline, an action which further weakens the relevance and credibility of its own offsetting and reduction program. As a next step of meeting the Paris Agreement, ICSA calls on governments to impose measures to peak global aviation emissions by 2025 as a first milestone on their way to 2050 net-zero, and to consider how ICAO’s goal should address non-CO2 impacts.
